What is BeerMasonry?
Okay - so the name of our club is a little tongue-in-cheek. But in a world that often seems to have forgotten the amazing truth of how wonderous beer can be - it seemed appropriate at the time.
It is about banding together to explore and sample beer from around the world – sometimes a tricky thing when you are located on this part of the planet. It’s about getting to know and keeping up with Australia’s best and brightest brewers. It’s about learning to appreciate the effort, complexity and creativity that goes into brewing.
It is about drinking craft beer - the delicious, the interesting, the radical, the refined, the new, the different, the highly prized, the often-sought and rarely found.
BeerMasonary is simply the philosophical and somewhat cheeky pursuit of better beer. Our mission is to seek out and share amongst our devotees the true, deliriously tasty experience of exceptional beer.
So, we welcome you. We sip alongside you on your beer enlightenment journey. We share in your pursuit of better beer and acknowledge that life is too short to drink bad beer.
The BeerMasons is a small, family run business that started in 2009. It has grown from a tight knit community of Melbourne craft beer enthusiasts to numbering in the thousands. BeerMasons members and supporters can now be found right around Australia living in cities, suburbs and the outback. We even send packs to members on Lord Howe Island!
The club is run by Renee Mathie, one of the original founders. Renee is a rather well rounded (ahem - is that code for chubby??), highly dedicated beer enthusiast committed to tracking down tasty, rare and interesting beer experiences for us all.
Renee’s job is to do pretty much everything at BeerMasons including all the fun stuff like finding great beers, drinking them, meeting the brewers and learning about their wares, cooking with beer and hanging out and chatting about beer with fellow BeerMasons. She also does all the less fun stuff – admin, chasing shipments, calculating excise, arguing with couriers in multiple languages, etc. etc.
We now have a great company running our warehouse so she has taken the job of hand sticking labels on every new bottle and packing every order, off her to-do list. But sometimes you will find her skulking around the warehouse looking like she wouldn’t mind packing a case or two and lovingly admiring the beautiful beer destined for your fridge.
